Online check in
Aug 8, 2018
The project
Avantio's new Online Check-in is a product that guarantees tourists an improved experience, where they can check-in quickly, intuitively and securely. Improving the experience of both the tourist and the Property Manager.
The problem
In the project, we had two main problems. One was the average time it took for the user to check-in online. We had to reduce it as much as possible to ensure that the Property Manager had the data and documents of all guests for their reservations.
On the other hand, we needed to ask the user in a secure and intuitive way for their personal data to be validated.
The goal
Create a wizard to guide the tourist through the entire process so that once their documents and information have been validated, the necessary documentation can be generated.
The process
In the first stage, we focused on defining the information needed by the property manager. Both at legal and agency level, in order to improve their workflow.
At the same time, we investigated how users check-in, how long it took them to finish and why some of them abandoned the process.
Following an iterative model, we started working on the mvp, where we tested the main functionalities that provided the most value. The biggest challenge was document validation. We needed a simple flow that would give the user instant feedback on their scanned documents. We opted for a wizard to guide the process from scanning to signing the required documents. We tested with different user profiles before launching the first version. But we kept in constant contact with them and our support department to confirm or discard our hypotheses and improve our product with new functionalities.
Team and contribution
Our team: - 1 Product Manager
- 1 Frontend Developer
- 1 Backend Developer
- 1 Product Designer
As a product designer, I participate in the process from the problem definition stage to the product launch and testing stage. Where we are receiving feedback to continue improving the product and developing new features.
Together with my Product Manager, I work defining the problems of our users. Later, we continue working on the information architecture and flows of our application.
The whole team participates in most stages, providing feedback and different solutions. What we try in the end between all the parties involved is that our product works in the best possible way.
Solution
Visually, we opted for a simple structure that would guide the user and always keep their focus on the current step of their check-in. We wanted to improve as much as possible the process in the mobile version to give more flexibility and agility to the user, so he could check-in in less than 2 minutes from wherever he wanted. We included most of the main information and actions at the touch of your thumb, so you can have all your personal information and booking data available at your fingertips.
